Slow progress this morning on the race track as movistar (Bouwe Bekking) edges their way towards the Melbourne finish line at what must seem like a snail’s pace in time for Sunday lunch.

Movistar’s estimated time of arrival has been swinging back and forth for the last 24 hours with the wind as it dies and picks up again. She has gone through Port Phillip Head is making her way up to Mornington, 21 miles from the finish, but since she turned towards Mornington, her speed has dropped to five knots.

She is currently expected to cross the finish line off Williamstown, Melbourne around Sunday lunch time (13:00 Melbourne time) 0200 GMT tomorrow morning.

Pirates of the Caribbean (Paul Cayard) still has 407 miles to the finish and are currently doing 11 knots in 17 knots of wind, 220 miles off the coast.

ING Real Estate Brunel has 746 miles to run and will be the final boat to finish this leg in their home port of Melbourne. They have 14 knots of boat speed in 17 knots of breeze and sailing a much more northerly course than the course the rest of the fleet took, 500 nm from the Australian coast.

Brasil 1 (Torben Grael) has officially retired from leg two and is partly sailing and partly motoring towards Fremantle, Western Australia. The team had originally hoped to make it to the scoring gate at Eclipse Island, but it was going to take too long. They are expecting to pick up a tow from a fishing vessel sometime in the next 24 hours and the crew has already started to remove all the fittings from the broken rig, The boat will be shipped by road to Melbourne. .
