Rosemount Farr 40 Regatta Results

by Rob Kothe on 25 Mar 2001
Marcus Blackmore, Rosemount Regatta winner Jessica Statham
Marcus Blackmore won 95kg.(his class designated weight) of excellent Australian Rosemount Estate wines today, with a win in the eight race Rosemount Estate Farr 40 One Design Regatta.

Five seconds in race 5 yesterday probably cost popular Pittwater skipper Warwick 'Wozza' Weikmann and his Leroy Brown crew the series.

Leroy Brown's excellent offshore racing record came inshore, with three wins and three thirds in the eight race series and would have given him the title except for one blow-out.

A 360 penalty for an early start in race 5 turned into a horrible 10 placing, when Wozza found the only hole in the course and sat almost becalmed while the fleet sailed away. In the same race Emotional Hooligan, who was only 5 seconds behind Leroy Brown on the starting line sailed into second place.

Today Leroy recorded two wins and a sixth, whereas Hooligan remained thereabouts with a three and two fourths, but the 10 position buffer could not be overcome.

As a result Marcus Blackmore and his Emotional Hooligan team won the series, with Leroy Brown second.

Experienced Melbourne racer, Bruce Taylor, who has campaigned fiercely over the years with his Hick 35(now AFR Midnight Rambler) and more recently his Murray 36 Chutzpah was unable to repeat his double winning sequence yesterday, helming Buon Giorno.

He was second behind Leroy in Race 6 today but then faded to record mid-fleet positions in the last two short races in Towler's Bay

Brett Neill's Kiwi team with a first and second on Day 3 pushed Richard Pirini's Corinthian Doors further away from the podium.

The success of Marcus Blackmore's constantly campaigned Emotional Hooligans contrasted with the mid-fleet form of the Whiston Brothers Simon and Neill aboard Smile and Fruit Machine. They had led the class before Christmas, but not raced seriously since and in this kind of racing practice keeps perfect.
