Catamaran Kilo missing from Kata Beach

by Bob Mott on 31 Dec 2005
Kilo, missing from Kata Beach Thailand, December 16th 2005 Chris Seiber
Missing from Kata Beach Phuket Thailand on the 16th - the catamaran Kilo. Kilo is a 46 foot alloy Tim Mumby design catamaran with a distinctive light blue hull and cream decks. She has either dragged anchor and is heading out to sea towards Sumatra ( based on wind direction and currents) or has been stolen from the anchorage. If she has drifted she is expected to be some 150 miles south west of Phuket Island.

Please contact Chris Seiber the owner at seabear_1@yahoo.com or myself Bob Mott at marineware@loxinfo.co.th or 24 hours a day to our Thai mobiles +66-1-7974061 Bob Mott or +66-1-8871558 Chris Sieber.

A helicopter search on the 20th has failed to turn up any sign of Kilo.

Kilo is sailing under Thai flag. The Nr. is: 48510423. Kilo has (rare for this size of cat) only one engine. The propellershaft (in the center of the boat) can be pulled up for sailing.

Boats travelling the Malacca Straits should also keep a look out for her as well as boats travelling across the Indian Ocean.

Feel free to contact Chris Sieber for more information as to registration number. My feeling is that it is either aground in Sumatra or the Nicobar or it has slipped through the channel between Pulau We or has been picked up. The was a rumour out that a catamaran had been struck by a freighter - unsubstantiated.

I doubt whether it will turn up in Malaysia - the only probability form that is if it has been stolen. Wind direction and current places it in the areas I have indicated or the Indian Ocean.

Any help you can give would be much appreciated. Kilo was sponsored in the Kings Cup by Coutts Bank with a spinnaker provided. It is a great pity that it has disappeared.

Any information regarding Kilo would be greatly appreciated.
