Palamos Christmas Race - Penultimate day

The 30th edition of the Christmas Race continued in Palamós Thursday. The Committee decided to advance the warning signal of today's first race to 10:00 hrs considering the weather forecast that announced a wind drop around 13:00hrs.

Finn, Tornado and 470 women sailed one race, the Laser, Laser Radial, Europe and 470 men sailed two races and three races were sailed by the 49ers.

Boats are all back ashore waiting for the official announcement at 16:30hrs about the time of the warning signal for the first race Friday. Depending on the forecast, the warning signal will be again put forward to 10:00 hrs.

Tornado class World and Europe champions, Spain's Fernando Echavarri and Antón Paz (Movistar)continue to lead the class despite a win today for Christina and Florian Loweg (GER).

In the 49er fleet there is a new leader, Jorge Lima and Francisco Andrade (POR) with early leaders Jan and Hannes Peckolt (GER) now second.

Swedish sailor Daniel Birgmark continues to lead the Finn class, followed by two Spanish sailors Rafael Trujillo Villar and Diego Fructuoso.

Later the 30th anniversary Christmas Race dinner was a cheeful gathering of teams who enjoyed a delicious menu cooked by the 'Arrossaires d'Argelaguer'. The fun followed with the lucky draw with lots of presents (T-shirts, caps, pullovers, sailing clothing, etc ...) for all those who attended.

Presents were offered by Perfumeria Palli, Ajuntament de Palamós, Pica-Pica, La botiga del Brodat, D'Avui, MBM Associats, Toni Tio, Espais il·luminació, Nana, Estació Nàutica, Sunami Center i Marta Blanca.

The Brits tried out a new cyclor for the early stages of the Saturday training session The Brits were the only team to sail AC75s or paired AC40s over the weekend. INEOS Britannia sailed their newly christened AC75, with team principal Jim Ratcliffe, a keen cyclist, aboard and functioning as one of the four cyclors for the early session.
