Yachting events around the world have been attracting support from corporations marketing up-market products in recent years. Companies like Rolex, Volvo, BMW, and Skandia have found an excellent match between their products and the yachting event participants.

Within Asia, Raimon Land, a major Thai property developer with significant developments in Bangkok, Pattya and Phuket, began supporting the Kings Cup in 2004 and became the major sponsor for this year's 19th Kings Cup.

Last year’s December 26th Asian Tsunami caused significant damage in the region, but it seems the recovery has been rapid.

Raimon Land CEO Nigel Cornick explained; ‘The initial post Tsunami period was difficult for Phuket, but since the middle of the year we’ve seen a significant recovery and activity is now back to pre-Tsunami levels. It’s only taken twelve months, hotels are full and high season bookings are extremely strong.

‘Phuket will go from strength to strength. It has all the fundamentals, superb climate, the beaches, the islands and the city infrastructure.

‘We are delighted with the Phuket Kings Cup event and we have now confirmed our sponsorship for three years.

‘It is one of our key sponsorship initiatives; it’s a wonderful event and it fits well for us..it has synergy with our resort destinations and boating and yachting.

‘While our Bangkok developments are high rise condominiums, high rise in the cities, in Phuket we develop in sympathy with the environment.

‘We are always looking for great locations, and in conjunction with the 2005 Kings Cup we have launched our newest Phuket development, The Heights.

‘With the development of the internet, people can work in setting overlooking the beach in Phuket and watch the boats, rather than sitting in offices in Bangkok or Hong Kong.’

Raimon Land yesterday played host to large numbers of visitors to the regatta and it’s clear that these sponsors are at one with the event organisers, forecasting a great future for Phuket and the Phuket Kings Cup.
