Itinerary planning for the Whitsundays

by Cruising Editor on 19 Nov 2005
Whether you like to hang out for a few days at a time in one anchorage, really savouring the atmosphere, or would rather sail and swim and snorkel each day in a variety of places, it’s always good to have a plan. Naturally, whatever plan you have will be dependent on the weather, but the following itineraries are in easy stages, and with moderate wind conditions are all quite achievable without too much rushing.

Suggestion 1:

Day 1: To Macona Inlet
Day 2: To Border Island – moor or anchor at Cateran Bay
Day 3: To mantaray Bay or Luncheon Bay, moor or anchor for lunch. Then to Butterfly Bay for overnight
Day 4: To Stonehaven, moor for lunch. Then to Nara Inlet
Day 5: Morning in Nara Inlet then on to Hamilton Island for overnight or, after provisioning on to Beach 25 on Whitsunday Island
Day 6: To Whitehaven Beach for overnight
Day 7: to Tongue Bay or Apostle Bay for overnight
Day 8: To Cid Harbour for overnight
Day 9: To Bauer Bay on South Molle Island for overnight
Day 10: Back to base.

Suggestion 2:

Day 1: To Hook Island Resort
Day 2: Morning at Hook Island then to Stonehaven to anchor for overnight
Day 3: To Blue Pearl Bay for the morning, the to Saba Bay for overnight
Day 4: Morning in Saba Bay then to Dugong Inlet Cid Harbour.
Day 5: To Henning Island for the morning, then to Hamilton Island for overnight
Day 6: To Plantation Bay on Lindeman Island for overnight
Day 7: To Chance Bay on Whitsunday Island for overnight
Day 8: To Tongue Point for the morning, then to Macona Inlet for overnight
Day 9: To Daydream Island for overnight
Day 10: Back to Base

Birds of prey. Insects. All of them airborne? How does it all apply here? Time to find out! All are airborne. The first three are birds of prey. The last one is an insect. All are so completely different. The first three have also had their name, formidable qualities and fantastic reputations applied to fantastic aircraft made by Boeing.

A look at The Ocean Cleanup and its the 30 Cities Program The cliche goes that one should avoid meeting one's heroes, as there's always a chance that the flesh-and-blood person might not live up to expectations. While I've never met Boyan Slat, I'd gladly take this risk.

And the rest of the line is not toil and trouble, but quadruple, then another double… On the eve of the 100th Fastnet that has attracted some 464 entries, I heard of one entry in this record fleet that seemed so very apt. Not only because it includes the Commodore of the RORC, but because it combines two Brits and two Aussies.
