Broken Bay
by Cruising Editor on 18 Nov 2005
Broken Bay, with its better-known child, Pittwater, is the favourite leisure cruising ground of Sydneysiders wishing to escape from city life for a while. Its deep tranquil inlets and wide sailing stretches make this one of the most sought after venues for cruising yachts south of the Whitsundays.
INFORMATION ABOUT THE ANCHORAGES:
The problem with conventional charting systems is that many of the existing marine charts are not very precise, and accuracy is important near reefs and anchorages. The marriage of high resolution space and aerial images with electronic plotting creates a major step forward in navigation. And photographs are prettier, too. For a comprehensive rundown of the magnificent array of anchorages in Broken Bay go straight to the brilliant Cruising Broken Bay site. One of the satellite images from the site is shown left, demonstrating the extensiveness of the cruising grounds in Broken Bay. The Cruising Broken Bay site offers you the option to purchase an inexpensive, satellite-image-based CD charting system of the Broken Bay area.
For comprehensive descriptions of the many anchorages of the Broken Bay area, go to the http://www.yachtcharter.com.au/cruisingarea.html!Pittwater_Yacht_Charter_Anchorages site. It's very descriptive and gives honest appraisals of the advantages and disadvantages of each anchorage.
Full information about all these anchorages is also contained in Alan Lucas’s ‘Cruising the New South Wales Coast’, See your local marine book store, or contact http://www.boatbooks.com.au/!Boatbooks!same
