Sydney Harbour is one of the few harbours in the world where commercial shipping, public ferries and leisure craft share the same water. Around the Harbour, there are many and varied anchorages for the cruising yacht to take shelter.

The Pilot Book for the whole NSW region is ‘Cruising the New South Wales Coast’, by Alan Lucas, published by Horwitz, and it has lots of good information about Sydney Harbour. See your local bookstore, or contact Boatbooks

The appeal of offshore
Is there still appeal? Have we made it too onerous? Why would someone take it up now? I had been pondering. Yes. Marquee events have no issue attracting entrants. Middle Sea, Transpac, Cape to Rio, Fastnet, and Hobart all spring to mind instantly, but what of the ‘lesser' races? Lots of boats in pens (slips) a lot of the time
