2005 Archipelago Raid
by Event media on 2 Jun 2005
The largest and most extreme orienteering sailing competition in the world, Archipelago Raid, will this year be even harder than its previous four editions.
With one more day added to the race, the brave competitors will navigate in the Archipelagos of Stockholm, Åland and Finland during six days. Like the previous editions, two persons per team sail on the small, but very fast catamarans called the Formula 18. Paddling is allowed, so there is no time to rest, even in very light wind conditions.
The course will be longer and go more east than ever, to Nagu in the Finnish archipelago. Around 600 nautical miles will be sailed during these gruelling six days and nights.
Already last year the level of the competitors was high, with pro sailors from all over the world fighting for top position. Many of last year’s stars are back, both local and foreigners, and a total of 35 teams are expected.
The start of Archipelago Raid is on August 15 in the heart of Stockholm. The finish is on August 20, in the famous sailing harbour of Sandhamn, in the archipelago of Stockholm.
