Glorious Winter Sunshine greeted the 35 yachts competing in Race 3 of the North Sails Winter Series raced out of Middle Harbour Yacht Club last Saturday morning.

The early West to Southwest wind gradually faded throughout the morning. Racing started in 7 knots of west to southwest wind at Cannae Point on a beat to Edwards Beach with competitors fighting a swirling outgoing tide.

In typical Sydney winter wind conditions the breeze gradually faded and then slowly filled from the southeast. Consequently the race course was shortened to only 7nm.

The tricky conditions were suited to Brigitta sailed by Martin Chalk / Phil Yeomans in PHS Division 1 who took handicap honours from Another Dilemma sailed by Jim Curtis and Mean Machine sailed by Chris Rabbidge. IRC Division saw a runaway win by Mean Machine, which showed pace & savvy in the tricky conditions.

The smaller Division 2 yachts struggled on the final long beat from Manly to Edwards Beach but Sensai sailed by Andrew Daly produced good speed to win from the J24’s Mister Bridger sailed by Alister Morison and Pinot helmed by John Terry.

In the Cruising Division, Kay Burns/Peter Collins sailing Nelson J scored a win from Westerley sailed by Mike Gibbons.

Post Racing, a barbeque on the balcony and drinks in the Members Bar, with the Trivia quiz winners being a joint effort from Team Animus – their efforts rewarded with a bottle of wine.
