SPA Regatta gets a new name

by Event media on 8 May 2005
The Organising Committee of the SPA Regatta, one of the finest Olympic Class events in the world, has decided on a name change.

As of today, local time, the former SPA Regatta will now be known as the ‘Holland Regatta’. With this change of name, the first and oldest Olympic sailing regatta in The Netherlands, is preparing itself for the future.

‘After twenty great years we said goodbye to our main sponsor in 2004 said Henri G C van der Aat, chairman of the Organising Committee.

‘Ever since the first Regatta, we have aimed for quality, innovation and continuity; now - and in the future. It has been the key to our success and will be in the future, even without a new main sponsor,’ he said.

‘To demonstrate our ambition for growth and quality, we created a new name for this event. The Holland Regatta is a real Dutch event, something of which we are truly proud of.

'Of course we continue to welcome prospective sponsors. We will be the first to test an electronic system that can identify early starters in 2005.’

The Holland Regatta takes place from 25 - 29 May, in Medemblik, The Netherlands. During the Holland Regatta, the Neil Pryde RS:X will make its debut as an Olympic discipline. The other participating disciplines are: Tornado, Yngling, Star, 49er, 470, Finn, Laser, Laser Radial and Mistral.
