Skandia Super-Maxi under tow
by Sail-World Team on 30 Dec 2004
Grant Wharington’s supermaxi, having suffered damage, lost her keel and capsized off the Tasmanian coast during the 60th Hobart is now under tow.
‘Currently we are towing Skandia to Flinders Island. From there it will be transported by barge to Victoria and transferred to a truck for its final destination of Port Melbourne. At this stage, a full assessment is not possible but we do know the mast is broken,’ explained Bindy Lockhart, Operations Manager for Wild Thing Yachting.
‘We have been overwhelmed with offers of support from the sailing community and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their
assistance.
We also appreciate the respect everyone is giving this situation by keeping their distance from the main activity.
We will continue to provide updates of our progress as regularly as possible and thank the public and media for their patience.’
