Mustang go to bat for Volvo
by IBI Magazine on 12 Nov 2004
Volvo Penta has announced that it is now the main supplier of marine engines to Australia's Mustang Cruisers, which has seen its business soar in recent years.
During the last 12 months alone, Volvo has supplied the Gold Coast boat builder with an increased number of gasoline and diesel engines ranging from 270hp-480hp for single and twin installations.
‘Currently, Volvo Penta accounts for nine of the ten engines that Mustang Cruisers installs in its boats,’ says Graeme Avers, president of Volvo's Australian importer, Eastern Engine.
Volvo makes marine engines for pleasure boats and commercial craft ranging from 10hp-2000hp. In September this year, the group introduced a new line of 9lt marine diesel engines available in 300hp, 350hp and 425hp, and a complete range of marine gensets.
Volvo has been supplying its engines to the Mustang line of sports cruisers since 2001, when Mustang first decided to test and evaluate Volvo's range of gasoline engines.
Founded in 1974, Mustang builds around 200 boats annually at its 15,000sq m manufacturing facility on Australia's Gold Coast. The group has won a number of awards over the last 12 months following the launch of the 3500 Sports Cruiser and the 3800 Sports Top models.
Recently, the 3800 was named Australian Boat of the Year, Australian Cruiser of the Year and the Australian Family Boat of the Year by the Australian Marine Industry Federation.
