Zhik Xeflex® is your shield against exposure from the cold

by Liz Rushall on 13 Feb 2017
Zhik - Xeflex Midlayer Material Zhik
Zhik’sXeflex® radiant barrier mid-layer is no ordinary mid-layer. It takes light weight warmth and insulation to new levels for sailors - well in fact you could scale Everest in it.

When Zhik set out to create a ‘crazy-warm’ (Australian terminology), water-resistant mid-layer that really breathes, that reflects your own body heat back to you, they wanted a compression resistant and extremely insulating filling. Yet, it had to be nowhere near as bulky as the proverbial ‘Michelin Man’, and give you immense warmth and comfort.

To do this, Zhik deployed their proprietary Xeflex® fabric to work hand in hand with the vertically-lappedfibre filling which prevents compression. The result is an ingenious composite construction using a nano-thin metallic layer to reflect radiating body heat inwards to create extreme warmth easily and effectively. The very light weight insulation fibres, together with highly water-resistant and breathable outer, create equivalent thermal protection of a typical Everest type down jacket.

Zhik’s revolutionary, and totally hydrophobic (water-hating) Avlare® is used for the cuffs, meaning you also stop any water sneaking down your arms, or shooting up your legs as you move about.

The combination of the two technologies working together also means that whilst there is a significant reduction in heat loss, the drape, stretch and breathability of the Xeflex® ®fabric has not been compromised either, so it is extremely comfortable. And as the apparent wind builds, it won’t compress either, so you retain all the thermal benefits when you need them the most.

The jacket sports an asymmetric front zip so it is not directly behind the one on your outer layer, fleece lined hand warmer pockets and an internal zippered chest pocket.

Ultimately, it all means you can use your Xeflex® garments across an extremely broad range of conditions, and lengthen your sailing season too, whilst getting the maximum performance from both your base and outer layers.

Xeflex® Mid-LayerJacket is availble in Unisex sizes XS - XXXL RRP £219.00
Xeflex® Mid-Layer Salopettes XS - XXXL RRP £219.00
