RS Sailing 2021 - LEADERBOARD

Message from RPAYC Commodore

In this 24th year of the event the race to Coffs Harbour will diverge from its normal course with a turn mark to bring the fleet close to Palm Beach. This leg will ensure that the spectators will see spinnakers flying.

This is the second change to the course in the history of the race, as early races used South Solitary Island as a rounding mark. The majestic Solitary Island remains a mark of race six of the regatta.

The race last year saw close racing as boats tacked into the prevailing nor-easter as they avoided the southerly set. Tactics are all-important in these conditions along with precise navigation.

The local community and the City Council make the competitors very welcome and this of course, adds to the fun. Coffs Harbour is a most attractive destination with excellent resorts such as Pelican Beach Resort Australis and Quality Resort Nautilus popular with competitors and their families. A festival atmosphere develops with the arrival of the fleet in the secure harbour.

Once again, berthing will be restricted and this unfortunately will remain the case until the new marina is built on the south side of the Harbour. The situation comes about as a result of the significant growth of the Coffs Harbour area and the greater number of permanent berths occupied in the marina. This has necessitated the Club limiting the number of entrants so it is advisable to submit your entry without delay.

Road access is easy with the upgrading of the Pacific Highway and the area is also served by two airlines making it an accessible destination.

The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (RPAYC) is once again proud to have the Strathfield Group Limited onboard as the principal event sponsor and we look forward to continuing the relationship for many years. Strathfield have grown considerably over the years and it’s great to see their range of electronics now incorporates products, which can be used at sea.

Once again I look forward to welcoming all skippers and crews to the event and look forward to extending to them the traditional hospitality of the RPAYC.
