On Sunday 25th December, as Thomas Coville was about to cross the finishing line of his solo round the world voyage, Francis Joyon, who had held this record since 2008, wanted to express his thoughts.
“Thomas has achieved a remarkable time after a perfect voyage around the world. Well done! Congratulations on his performance and for his determination. With this boat that carries more sail and is bigger than my old IDEC trimaran, he has placed the bar very high.
It is going to take a lot of luck in the future to improve on this time going from one system to another, as Thomas has managed to do. With Ellen, there are only the three of us to have completed this voyage sailing solo, non-stop on a multihull and we know how much commitment it took Thomas to achieve this magnificent performance.”
