Two kiwi teams secured podium finishes in the Sailing World Cup final in Melbourne as the competition wrapped up today with medal races for six of the eleven events.

Nacra 17 pair Olivia Mackay and Micah Wilkinson took Silver in their fleet after a close week of racing with Rio Silver medalists Jason Waterhouse and Lisa Darmanin (AUS) who claimed Gold as John Gimson and Anna Burnet (GBR) completed the podium with Bronze. The three pairs are pictured above (Sailing Energy/World Sailing).

New Zealand’s second medal came in the 49er fleet where Josh Porebski and Trent Rippey sailed a consistent regatta to win the Bronze. Isaac McHardie and William McKenzie came back from a DNC in yesterday’s blustery conditions where their boat suffered a broken rig to finish in sixth overall following todays race, with Nick Egnot-Johnson and Jack Rogers finishing in ninth.

Last to race today were the foiling kiteboarders who had the best of the conditions, a 12-knot breeze, while the previous fleets to have sailed had a tougher time, racing in 6-7 knots of shifting breeze.

New Zealander Sam Bullock finished seventh overall after 24 races, with the kite racing providing a spectacular display for those ashore at St Kilda this afternoon.

The Men's and Women's 470 Laser, Laser Radial and Finn concluded their fleet racing today and the top ten go through to Sunday's Medal Races.

Laser Radial sailor Susannah Pyatt had a strong finish to her fleet racing segment today with a second in the final race.

'It’s been a consistent week for me. We have had a range of conditions and lots of top competitors so it’s been an ideal week to make some gains,” she comments.

Pyatt will compete in the medal race on Sunday along with Laser sailor Andrew McKenzie.
