Clubs and sailors in Queensland will benefit from funding received from the Queensland Government to build grassroots sailing, participation and increase the number of women involved, both on and off the water.

Aimed at increasing the involvement of Queenslanders in sport and recreation, the State Development Program 2017-2019 funding has been allocated to 77 organisations across Queensland.

On receiving the news, Matt Carroll CEO of Australian Sailing said, “we are pleased that the Queensland Government continues to show their support for grassroots and participation across the region, allowing us to continue to develop and deliver programs to get more people sailing”.

Additional funding was received under the Special Initiative Category which will assist with a Women and Girls in Sailing Project, aimed at increasing involvement in the number of women sailing, as well as gaining skills and qualifications as Race Officials and Club Officers.

Ken Hurling, President of Yachting Queensland also expressed his appreciation to the Queensland Government for the funding saying, “we are grateful that the people of Queensland will continue to be encouraged to take part in all sport, including sailing, and thank the Queensland Government for their ongoing contribution.

“Local support is so important and we will work with our Clubs to continue to develop and increase opportunities for more people to get involved in sailing, particularly women,” Ken said.

On the announcement of the Grants, Queensland Treasurer and Minister for Sport Curtis Pitt said the State Development Program 2017-2019 funding would increase Queenslanders participation in sport and recreation.

“I am proud to say that it is the largest budget of funding for State level organisations of any State in Australia.

“Queensland has always been a leader in the amount of support provided to State level organisations and I’m pleased to be able to build on this support in coming years”, the Minister said.
