Torbole 293 Garda Trentino World Championship - Final day Elena GiolaiCSTorbole
En Plein for Giorgia Speciale: after the European title, in 2016 also the Under 17 Techno 293 World title for this girl who goes down in history becoming the first athlete to win a medal in all 5 years of activity. Enrica Schirru, after a bronze medal in 2015, wins a wonderful silver one, confirming Italy as the strongest nation in the women's windsurfing.

Gold goes to Italy also in the Techno Plus category with the Sicilian Antonino Cangemi.

After six tough days of races at Circolo Surf Torbole, now it’s time to celebrate! A record edition of Olympic class Techno 293 World Championship has just ended: 474 competitors for the first time from all the five continents, which makes this World Championship really universal.

Celebrations for Italy for another historical record of Giorgia Speciale, still on the podium in all of five T293 World Championship she took part, with three gold and two silver medals. Celebrations also for Enrica Schirru for her second place: a wonderful Italian double!

It was an impressive organization for a Championship that has never seen such a great number of competitors: everything was ok, especially the great wind conditions that North Lake Garda Trentino offered this week, from light to very strong wind, as the latest races on Saturday morning.

Great passion and professionalism identified Circolo Surf Torbole staff, as well as the well-knit Race Committee chaired by Claudio Alessandrello, who has been able to coordinate the needs of the International Class 293 with the entire organization, ensuring races in safety condition for all categories.

Ashore a big news was the animation team, which entertained the competitors who were waiting its own fleet races.

U-17 boy

First place confirmed for the French Tom Gerandeau. A great growth of Greece in the Techno 293 Class with Leonidas Tsortanidis thanks to the last race in which he has moved up from fourth to second place. Third place for the French Fabien Pianazza. Nicoló Renna fourth, with desire of revenge for the next RS:X Youth World Championship, scheduled on 2017, the end of June at Circolo Surf Torbole.

U-17 girls

As well as last year in Cagliari, an almost total Italian podium: two Italian competitors who won with a race less. So Giorgia Speciale enters in the all of fame of young people windsurfers being the first ever athlete who winning a medal in all five editions of T293 Worlds she took part: three gold and two silver medals in U-15 and U-17 categories. The extraordinary athlete from the historical Circolo SEF Stamura of Ancona, is coached by Roberto Pierani.

An excellent result also for Enrica Schirru (coached by Mauro Covre), who after a bronze medal in 2015, today gets a silver one. Greece at third place, only three points from Schirru.

U-15 boys

A very hard latest three races for U-15 competitors this morning, who sailed with a 20 knots of north wind. Gold medal for the French Mathis Ghio (last races two – one - one); silver medal for the Israeli Eyal Zror (four – two - six) and bronze for the British Eyal Zror (one – four - five). Great Championship still for the Italian Alessandro José Tomasi (LNI Riva) and Edoardo Tanas (Fraglia Vela Malcesine), who are respectively sixth and eighth.

U-15 girls

The podium of the girls U-15 class goes to Hong Kong Mak Cheuk Wing, who is four points away from Mathilde Garandeau. Third place for the Israeli Linoy Geva. The Ligurian Marta Monge has fighted with honor and determination till the end: fifth place for her who concluded this Championship still as a protagonist.

Plus Men and Women

Another Italian first place in Plus Men category: gold medal won by Antoniino Cangemi (CC Lauria Palermo). A considerable distance for him, who is 19 points away from the second place belonging to the Norwegian Jakob Ruud. Third place for the French Hugo Mollard-Tanguy.

Among women, the victory goes to the French Clementine le Joliffe, followed by the Polish Patrycja Lis. Third place for the Mexican Mariana Aguilar. For the next Techno 293 World Championship, see you in 2017 in Catalonia (Spain)!

With Circolo Surf Torbole instead, the appointment is rather for the end of June 2017 for the RS:X Youth World Championship.
