Yamaha partners with Howick Sailing Club on Sailing Events + Programs

by Yamaha on 30 Oct 2016 Yamaha NZ, the leader in marine outboard technology announced a new partnership with Howick Sailing Club (HSC) to help get more youngsters sailing.

Yamaha support all levels of New Zealand Sailing from Emirates Team New Zealand to grassroots Sailing Clubs. The help and support offered by Yamaha is essential to the ongoing success of the Howick club, which relies on the generosity of local businesses to allow it to provide Learn to Sail courses to the local community.

As part of the partnership Yamaha will take naming rights over a number of events and programmes run by the club, including the East Auckland Optimist Championships on the 30th October and Howick Sailing Club’s Learn to Sail Programme.

Yamaha and HSC have a long history working together going back nearly 20 years.

The club’s learn to sail support craft, which are used by the schools Waterwise programme, have been powered by Yamaha outboards for the last 12 years and are critical parts of the club’s operating infrastucture. Today the club operates 4 Yamaha outboards, without which the club simply would not be able to operate.

Marc Frewin, HSC Club Commodore said “We are delighted to be able to extend and deepen our relationship with Yamaha. Safety is central to what we do at the club, and having modern, reliable outbound engines on our support craft is essential and Yamaha build the most reliable engines around. We simply could not continue to provide the grass roots sailing opportunities that we do today without the generosity of Yamaha.”

Matt Walton-Smith, New Zealand National Manager for marine products said “Supporting grass-roots organisations,
like Howick Sailing Club, that get the local community on the water in a safe and responsible way is part of what we do at
Yamaha. Our aim is to help as many people enjoy the water and we are delighted to be able to support Howick Sailing
