Heavy Weather Sailing Seminar
by John Keelty, CYCA on 21 Sep 2004
On Tuesday, October 5, CYCA Cruising will be holding its second Seminar on Heavy Weather Sailing.
Following on from our first seminar at this evening we will be addressing not only types of conditions that can be expected to be encountered as far as sea and wind pressure are concerned but how best to handle these extreme conditions from a yacht designers point of view.
As with out first seminar various styles of design will be included from full keel yachts to the latest water ballasted canting keel designs so whether just messing around in yachts, considering embarking on a world cruise or contesting this years Hobart this will an evening not to miss.
In order to fully cover this subject we have the very best presenters. Ken Batt from the Bureau of Meteorology will be there, along with Scott Jutson, designer of many tried and proven yacht designs such as Brindabella, Kay Cottee’s ultimate cruising yacht and the latest Northshore 36.
To complete the evening, Michael Spies, winner of last year’s Rolex Sydney Hobart Race and co-skipper of the race record holder Nokia, will discuss how to prepare and handle yachts at speed and in extreme conditions.
This will be an evening no sailor should miss.
Commencing at 1900hrs (7pm), the seminar runs for approximately two hours and is FREE and open to all.
The Bistro will be open prior to the event.
