Stack Winter Champs - O'pen BIC's have biggest turnout ever

The O’pen BIC fleet had some fantastic racing held off Murrays Bay Sailing Club over the long weekend (Sept 30 to Oct 2, 2016).

Six races completed over Friday and Saturday with Sunday being called off due to severe weather. The Stack Winter Champs is one of the largest junior regatta’s in the southern hemisphere and this year was no exception as 190 boats entered.

The standard of this fleet is going from strength to strength with on the water coaching by Russell Coutts and Hayden Whitburn. Jack Pye from Keri Keri took out the series overall on countback from Sam Cornfoot of Ravensbourne Boating club - Dunedin followed closely by Matthew Rist from Manly Sailing Club with a big win in race three.

The most improved sailor award went to Blake Dawson, who even won a race over the weekend, well done Blake!

Imogen Herbert took out first female for the weekend.

A special thanks goes to Murrays bay Sailing club for running a great regatta and to the NZL Sailing team for their inspiration to sailors.
