Hong Kong Team in control at RS-One Worlds

by ISAF on 1 Oct 2016
2016 RS:One World Championships - Day 4 RS:One Class
With two days ashore for the 66 racers from three continents due to Typhoon Mengi, the 2016 RS: One World Championships from 26 - 30 September in Penghu, Taiwan continued with an intense day of racing.

There were five races back to back in a solid breeze up to 25 knots, helping to deliver another exceptional day of racing.

In the Men's fleet, Hong Kong claimed back the lead with the consistent Ho Tsun Leung leading. Howard Chang from Taipei is now second ahead of Rafeek Kikabhoy from Hong Kong in third.

Hong Kong is confirming its domination at the event with Hei Man Hayley Chan and Wai Yan Ngai at the top of the Women's fleet at first and second respectively. Sarocha Prumpai from Thailand is third and in position to chase the leaders.

The RS: One Class, in partnership with the Chinese Taipei Sailing Association and the Windsurfing Club Guan YIn Ting, is hosting the championship, open to all, which allows international racers to compete through innovative race formats like the Pulsar (compact slalom, America's Cup style) and Marathon (long distance). The courses also offer the on-shore audience a chance to enjoy the event with racing close to shore.

RS: One is a multi-generational, one-design, windsurfing board featuring an easy and light performing 7.8 rig. Espoirs (youth, under 22 years old), Seniors (under 40 years old) and Masters (older than 40), men and women, can race together on the same starting line in a collective fleet.

The racing is scheduled to finish on 30 September but with an uncertain wind forecasted for the final day of racing.
