RNZYS chooses Line 7 for world's top youth programme

The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron’s Youth Training Program will wear Line 7 Marine for the 2016-2017 season.

Recognised as the top race training prgram in the world, the RNZYS Youth Program is the breeding ground for the Volvo Ocean Race, America’s Cup and Match Racing Champions.

In 1987 the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron launched its Youth Training Programme (YTP) and as a result has seen a “generation of yachting dominated by Kiwi sailors” says Guy Pilkington, coach to some of the world’s top ranking skippers.

Pilkington counts 2015 NZ Match Racing Champion Chris Steele (currently ranked seventh in the world in ISAF Match Racing) and 2016 World Match Racing Champion crew members Stewart Dodson and Will Tiller amongst his recent graduates.

“The Youth Training Programme sail all year round in some of the harshest conditions from cold winters to hot, hot summers and in winds from four to 40 knots,” says Pilkington. “We look to exploit every possible advantage on the water and we were impressed with the new technology the Active Tee offers in stimulating circulation, enhancing recovery and regulating body temperature.”

“The new Line 7 gear is proving very popular with our young sailors who wear their ‘uniform’ each weekend training with us,” adds Pilkington.

Comments from the Youth Training Programme members referenced the easy fit, comfort and warmth the garments offered with a particular emphasis on the the 4-way stretch fabric as “fantastic for sailing.”
