This weekend the Shag Islet Cruising Yacht Club will host their annual rendezvous in Gloucester Passage, Whitsundays, Queensland. A significant activity at the 2016 SICYC Rendezvous is 'Hands Across the Blue' for Prostate Cancer.
This activity is scheduled to take place in the shallows off the beach of Montes Reef Resort on Saturday 27 August at 11am. During this event attending yachties from over 200 visiting vessels gather in their dinghy’s on the water holding 'hands across the Blue' in the shape of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) logo.
The Superyacht ‘Norseman’ features as the platform for the event hosting VIP Guests with Abell Point Marina providing entertainment. Throughout this event helicopter on-water imagery is available, as well as interview opportunities with dignitaries aboard ‘Norseman’.
The intention of this event is to create awareness of Prostate Cancer, and to establish 'Hands Across the Blue' as an activity which may take place in boating, fishing, skiing and surfing communities each year on the last Saturday of August.
The special guest at the event this year will be distinguished professor Judith Clements AC. In 2015, Judith was awarded Companion of the Order of Australia on the Queen’s Birthday honours list, being recognised for her outstanding contribution to the field of biomedical research, particularly prostate cancer. Judith will be supported at the event by her colleague professor Adrian Herington.
Judith has over 30 years’ experience as a molecular and cell biologist in the endocrine field, is the principal research fellow of the National Health and Medical Research Council, she is also Scientific Director of the Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre Queensland (APCRC-Q) and Chair of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
Joining professors Clements and Herington, will be Councilor Andrew Wilcox (Major – Whitsunday Regional Council), Jason Costigan MP and other state/ local government officials, community leaders and tourism industry representatives.
The 2016 SICYC Rendezvous commences Thursday 25 August until Sunday 28 August and includes features such as:
Meet and greet drinks and entertainment, crab races, thai chi on the beach, the Shag Islet annual party with a kite theme, competition and prizes for best dressed boats by day and night, the iconic Parrot Head party, fireworks display, ‘pirate treasure’ auctions/ raffles (major prize this year is a parrot head wrapped HQ holden car), finishing with a pirates’ farewell lunch on Sunday 28 August.
SICYC ‘pop up’ coconut radio will be broadcasting live from the event all weekend on 89.5fm.
Bringing like-minded boaties together in the paradise of the Whitsunday Islands, this popular event promises a vibrant, colorful four days of frivolity and fun for a great cause.
