Spring into summer with NCYC’s Inner Spring Regatta

Entry is open 2016 NCYC Inner Spring Regatta to be held over the 10th and 11th of September. With six on the entry list in the first 24 hours this will be a regatta not to miss.

Commodore Jim Holley said ‘The Inner Spring Regatta has grown in status over the past five years from humble beginnings. I recall the first Inner Spring regatta which boasted 10 entries with day two sailed in horrific conditions resulting in the decision to race in the Hunter River which made for some very tight racing. With incremental year on year growth in fleet numbers the Inner Spring Regatta is now considered one of club’s annual ‘banner events’.

We would love to exceed last year’s fleet number of 20 participating yachts but would also be thrilled to just match it! In reviewing the entry list today I can see our local tenacious Farr 40 owner Joe deKock has entered Good Form which will no doubt be a contender as will Wally Hewson’s Sydney 41 Wallop from Lake Macquarie.

I’d extend a warm welcome to our Sydney friends to join the Regatta, particularly those from RPAYC and CYCA who have previously supported the event and with whom NCYC and its sailors have built strong relationships.’

The 2016 Inner Spring Regatta will be conducted under IRC, ORCi and PHS. The regatta will include three windward leeward races and a longer passage race, a format which has been well received over recent years and which will ensure sailors ‘get bang for their buck’ and leave the water thirsty each afternoon!

Defending IRC Inner Spring champion Schouten Passage will be watching from the sidelines as it undergoes some repair work however her crew will likely join other competing yachts for the event. With it unclear if last year’s PHS champion Bruce Herbert’s Young Guns will return to defend her title the road also remains clear for a new PHS champion. Word on the street it that Ian Bower’s Farr 400 Ignition is eying off the prize but has yet to enter.

Visiting participants in NCYC’s Inner Spring Regatta receive heavily discounted marina berthing for a week each side of the regatta as acknowledgement of their delivery efforts which coupled with a great race track and good hospitality mean this is not a regatta to miss!

Current entries can be viewed here and NCYC is happy to field any enquiries about the regatta on 02 4940 8188.
