Finn silver medalist Vasilij Zbogar standing for Athletes' Commission

Rio 2016 Olympians are this week electing their representatives on the Athletes' Commission.

Four sailors will be elected by their peers while the World Sailing board will chose a fifth representative from a list of seven candidates. The five sailors will join Sarah Gosling (GBR), Yann Rocherieux (FRA) and Lijia Xu (CHN) who are completing their second term.

Triple Olympic medallist, and Slovenia flag bearer, Vasilij Zbogar (SLO) is among the candidates. 'I have learned so much during my five Olympic campaigns in the Laser and the Finn, now I want to give back and help better the sport and work for the sailors and their future in sailing and after sailing. The Athletes' Commission is a great opportunity for the sailors opinion to be heard by World Sailing.'

Zbogar won bronze and silver medals in the Laser class at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 before moving to the Finn. He placed sixth at London 2012 and picked up his third Olympic medal, another silver, this week at Rio 2016.

Votes close on 22nd August.
