Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek 2016 kicked off its 13th year with a record fleet of 47 boats and more than 500 sailors signed up to compete in what has become one of Thailand's most popular regattas held during Phuket Island's low season.

The Opening Ceremony was presided over by Phuket's Vice Governor, Mr. Chockdee Amornwat, who in his opening speech highlighted the maritime traditions of Phuket and wished all the sailors an excellent four days of sailing off Phuket's southeast coast.

Hosted by Cape Panwa Hotel and organised by Media Business Services, Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek has gained a reputation for its competitive racing and spectacular sailing grounds, attracting sailors from more than 25 countries this year. It is also the first event of the prestigious 2016/2017 AsianYachting Grand Prix.

Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek is held under the auspices of the Phuket Yacht Club and enjoys the support of the Sports Authority of Thailand, Yacht Racing Association of Thailand, Tourism Authority of Thailand, and Sports Association Phuket.
