RCIYC Rossborough Insurance Round the Island Race Preview

Fillipene and Silver Paws BARTI13 - Rossborough Insurance Round the Island Race RCIYC
The 2016 edition of the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club’s round Jersey race is open for entries with Rossborough Insurance, committing to a three-year sponsorship to mark the Company’s 80th anniversary.

Scheduled for Sunday 7th August, this 40-mile race is open to both local and visiting sports boats, cruiser/racers and sport catamarans. Starting at 0800 hours in St Aubin’s Bay, the fleet will head eastwards to the Violet Channel buoy on the southeast corner of the Island, thence anti-clockwise around the Island returning to St Aubin’s Bay to finish.

‘Rossborough Insurance, Jersey’s only Chartered Insurance Broker, is proud to be sponsoring this prestigious race.

We’re supporting the event because, like Rossborough, the race has a long heritage; indeed, the major trophy was born in the same decade as us. It is a great community event whether you’re spectating or taking part,’ said Clive De La Cour, Rossborough’s Group Managing Director.

The Club’s venerable Jesse Boot and Cabot Memorial trophies will be the main focus for the cruiser and racer classes whilst there are also trophies for the sport catamaran classes and fastest boat around the Island; the record of three hours and seven minutes set by a Guernsey F18 sport catamaran in 2013 will take some beating!

RCIYC Commodore James Wilding, in warmly welcoming the Rossborough Insurance, said ‘This race is amongst the most prestigious in the Island’s racing calendar and it gives us all great pleasure to have the support of such a well-established and respected Island business. Such support truly adds to the attraction and excitement of the event. Circumnavigating the Island is always a real treat and challenge for all competitors. It is one of the most memorable ways of seeing this beautiful island, taking in the scenic beauty of the many surrounding beaches and the spectacular cliffs along the north coast and southwest approaches.’

The cut and thrust of the day’s racing will, as ever, be followed by the prize-giving and supper in the RCIYC Clubhouse at St Aubin.
