The commencement of the 2016 Melges 20 German Open held in conjunction with the Nepomuk Cup is just hours away. Two great days of top competition are scheduled and hosted by long-time yacht club partner - the Bayerisher Yacht Club (BYC) in Starnberg See, Munchen, Germany.

For Melges 20 teams all across Europe, this event is a must. Since the birth of the International Class, BYC's charming, unique hospitality and welcoming atmosphere makes it a very different regatta - something special.

This is the first regatta to be raced on a lake in 2016, just ahead of the next stage at the Sailing Series® Melges 20 in Riva del Garda (July 1-3). And of course, the real excitement is imminent, just two months before the World Championship will be raced in Tuscany at Marina di Scarlino on August 25-28. More than 50 teams are already registered and set to vie for the Class' most coveted trophy.

The German Open is the eighth 2016 World Series ranking event for the Melges 20 Class where thus far, 76 boats are currently ranked representing an impressive 16 countries.

Still firmly in charge, Monaco's Matteo Marenghi Vaselli at the helm of Raya leads by six points ahead of Guido Miani's Out of Reach, followed by Richard Davies' Section 16 in third.

The 2016 Melges 20 World Series includes a total of 14 events - seven in Europe, six in North America and one in Japan.
