NYYC Regatta Association announces two-year partnership with PCNA

by NYYC on 10 Jun 2016
Fleet in action - New York Yacht Club Annual Regatta NYYC
A new partnership between Porsche Cars North America and the New York Yacht Club Regatta Association pairs two organizations that have a passion for performance and have played pivotal roles in the growth and refinement of their respective sports.

The exclusive two-year agreement will include support of 10 events, including some of the most significant events in the sport of sailing: the New York Yacht Club Annual Regatta presented by Rolex, the Resolute Cup, Race Week at Newport presented by Rolex and the Rolex NYYC Invitational Cup. Each of these events offers Porsche exceptional lifestyle marketing and hospitality opportunities and the ability to expose their cars to a highly attractive audience.

Porsche is an icon in the world of motor sports, with greater than 30,000 wins across a spectrum of disciplines, and the brand is no stranger to sailing. However, this partnership represents the company's most significant foray into performance yachting in North America.

“Porsche and our New England Dealers are excited to partner with the New York Yacht Club; a prestigious institution founded on racing,' says Jacob Harb, Vice President, Area East. “Having these two iconic brands work together is a natural fit, and we look forward to a prosperous partnership.”

The New York Yacht Club Regatta Association is the event management arm of The New York Yacht Club, which was founded in 1844 and is one of the leading yacht clubs in the world. The Club held the America's Cup for 132 years, widely considered the longest winning streak in sports. The Club maintains two spectacular turn-of-the-century clubhouses in New York, N.Y., and Newport, R.I., and each year hosts some of the most respected events in the sport of sailing.

'We couldn't be more pleased about this new partnership,' says Jim Wilson, president of the Regatta Association. 'The support of Porsche Cars North America will help us continue to deliver to all regatta entrants and their family and friends what we believe to be the premiere regatta experience in the world.'

More than 150 boats are expected to compete in the 162nd Annual Regatta presented by Rolex. The event, which was first sailed in 1845, will feature a race around Conanicut Island on Friday, June 10, and then two days of buoy racing for the IRC and one-design classes, and point-to-point racing for the multihulls and navigator classes. The sponsors of the 162nd Annual Regatta include presenting sponsor Rolex and regatta sponsor Porsche Cars North America and the participating New England Area Porsche dealers.

The 72-foot Maxi72 class will be contesting its North American Championship during the regatta. All regatta information and key documents, including the Notice of Race, can be found here. Entry lists and provisional scratch sheets are located here.
