Sea Blade delivers 23 foot Patrol Boats to Hawaiian US State Dept

A joint build between Lancer Industries Ltd (NZ), Orca Engineering (NZ) and Navatek Ltd (USA) has seen the successful supply of the two Sea Blade 23 Law Enforcement Vessels for the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Hawaii.

The Sea Blade® was chosen during the tender process due to its ability to operate more capably than other tenderers vessels in open sea conditions. The patented hull form is the pinnacle of modern hull development for sea keeping and performance.

The Sea Blade patrol boats will be used by armed officers for enforcement duties of fisheries, vessel inspections and boarding as well as patrol duties based from Hawaii’s current State legislation on the use of Hawaii’s natural resources.

Acceptance trials were conducted off the coast of Honolulu with 1.5-2.0m waves with 25knots in oceanic conditions. During manoeuvres an average cruising speed of 23 Knots and a top speed of 38 Knots were achieved with comfort. The assessors commented “The Sea Blades performance and comfort will allow for greater access and enforcement in offshore locations.”


A Sea Blade feature highlighted during the sea trials in rough conditions was the ease of driving, with excellent course control and limited throttle adjustments. The integral tanks have a 378 Litre capacity which give it a range of over 400 Kilometres at cruising speed.

The Sea Blade 23 has been made robust and maintenance friendly. A 6mm aluminium hull with a custom solid foam collar makes this a hardy and reliability vessel. It also features large volume fuel tanks, weapons storage lockers, big swim platform and extended bimini for sun protection.

“The Sea Blade 23 is a great size for patrol operations, it fits on a trailer and is easily deployed. Due to its beam the boat has much more internal volume than competitors which means more operations can be conducted” States Christian Bradley of Navatek Ltd. “The sea kindliness is a key factor in the boats success which is suitable for recreational, commercial and military use”.
