Volvo Car UK is delighted to announce its role as Principal Sponsor of the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta Sailing Week, 20th – 28th August 2016.

As part of the Principal sponsorship, Volvo Cars will be supporting the Junior Dinghy Sailing Series (Saturday 20th – Tuesday 23rd August) and the Cruiser Racing (Sunday 28th August), adding to the company's existing sponsorship portfolio across British sailing from grassroots to glory – the Volvo Ocean Race. Sponsorship of the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta resonates particularly with the company's sponsorship of the three youth classes – Optimist, Topper and RS Feva – and further emphasises the role of Volvo Cars as one of the driving forces behind British sailing.

Ed Botterill, Chairman of the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, is excited about the involvement of Volvo Cars.

'The Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta is delighted to have Volvo Cars on board as a Principal Sponsor for the first time in 2016. This represents a major milestone in our 196 year history, and I look forward to working with them to position this event as one of very best Regattas in the country.'

There will be a number of special appearances from Team Volvo* athletes, including members of the British Sailing Team having recently returned to England from racing in Brazil. Luke Patience, part of the British Sailing Team, Olympic silver medallist and world number two, is looking forward to the celebrations: 'Dartmouth is an iconic sailing event, one that has been in the calendar for generations, so I am really looking forward to attending as a member of Team Volvo. Not only will we meet some of the competitors, hopefully we can inspire more people to get out on the water and try sailing.'

Volvo Cars will be running activities for the whole family including remote control boats, podium pictures and other features that will encourage everyone to get involved. There will also be opportunities to view the latest Volvo cars on display around the Race Village. Additionally, a full fleet of Volvo cars will be supplied for those volunteers and partners working tirelessly to bring the event together.

'Dartmouth is a prestigious event in the calendar and another great opportunity to encourage more people to try sailing. With the attendance of our Team Volvo sailors, Volvo Cars aims to add to the celebratory atmosphere of the Regatta with a host of activities to involve and entertain visitors of all ages,' said Nikki Rooke, Head of Sponsorship at Volvo Car UK.

Featuring four days of yacht racing for over 300 boats, the regatta attracts entrants of all ages and experience. Not just about the sailing, the event boasts energetic rowing races, tennis tournaments, exciting airshows and fantastic firework displays; in all attracting a footfall of around 100,000 people.
