The annual Sail Canada Rolex Sailor of the Year Awards offer a premium opportunity to nationally recognize achievements and successes of Canadian sailors and organizations.
Ontario Sailing and Rowontario were honoured on Friday, February 26, 2016 when they became the proud recipients of the Sail Canada Rolex Sailor of the Year Award for 'Recreation Event of the Year' for their joint venture, 'Get Out On The Water.'
Stephanie McKenzie, Project Manager of the GOOTW campaign, is the primary reason for the win! Her exuberance and commitment to the project are infectious and continue to fuel the project's success as it heads into its second year.
In 2015, Stephanie promoted the project to member clubs and the public which resulted in over 101 events and 3278 registered participants. From data provided, 25% of the registered participants financially committed to either programming or membership. For 2016, more partnerships are being featured and the project is sizing up to be better than ever.
If you speak with Stephanie, you get a great deal of insight into how this program affects the sailing community. 'It is in itself groundbreaking,' she explains 'because it has a large number of clubs following one line of thought and executing it to get more people out on the water.'
