Terry Anglin wins Excellence in Club Management Award

by SDYC on 16 Mar 2016 San Diego Yacht Club’s General Manager, Terry Anglin, has recently won the Mel Rex Award for Excellence in Club Management from the McMahon Group and Club and Resort Business magazine.

This award was presented to Anglin for his exceptional management and for his success in the numerous projects that he has been involved with since he assumed the position of GM/COO in 2009. From the start of his leadership, Anglin entered as SDYC was undergoing a staff transition, the Executive Chef, Controller and Catering Director positions were all vacant. Anglin jumped right into the interviewing and hiring process to fill them.

Simultaneously to hiring an all-star team, Anglin began undertaking the largest capital project in 45 years, replacing four of the club’s six buildings at one time. This project cost over $10 million which Anglin came in under budget and ahead of schedule.

According to Staff Commodore, John Laun, these two feats helped propel SDYC’s Platinum Club of America ranking to become the number two yacht club in the country. The food-and-beverage department has also made significant strides under Anglin’s leadership according to Laun. “We now serve over 11,000 meals in the dining room, in addition to a thriving catering operation. This past year, food-and-beverage revenue set a new record, up 4.5% over 2014 levels.”

Furthermore, since the start of 2016, the entire SDYC kitchen has been renovated and Anglin is looking forward to the next big project later this year- expanding the club’s deck. This will be done to increase outdoor seating so members can appreciate the breathtaking scenery of the Club and Point Loma.

Anglin, a wine and travel enthusiast, was thrilled to receive the award to recognize his impacts on SDYC. “I am humbled to be included in this illustrious group. But really, this is an award for the SDYC team as they are the ones who did all the work.”
