FMV CUP 2016 – More than 200 sailors from 13 states of the Mexican Republic and two foreign countries competed in the second event, in Bahia de Banderas. Wesmex Regatta is one of the most important sailing events in Mexico because it gathers the best and most competitive sailors in all categories!
In 2016, Wesmex is considered to be one of the best organizations by collaborating also with the Mexican Sailing Federation in order to promote the sport in Nayarit and Jalisco. Also, Wesmex is now part of the FMV CUP, a sailing tour of eight events designed to promote the sport of Sailing and the seaside beauty of Mexico worldwide.
After three days of competition, Wesmex came to an end with a high level of competitiveness and friendship. At the beginning of the weekend, the wind conditions were stable, blowing between four and six knots, with big waves.
The second day the conditions were more windy but with constant changes in direction, which complicated the work of the Race Committee, having to move the buoys according to the wind direction. The high level of work by the committee allowed to complete more than half of the program with seven races for most classes.
The third day started and the positions were almost defined. The wind was strong and stable, sometimes reaching up to 15 knots. It was a special day for closure and some sailors managed to recover from poor performance in the previous days.
At about 7:30 pm the closing ceremony was held attended by Ing. Giovanni Aloi Timeus, President of the Federacion Mexicana de Vela, who has been present at all times to support sailors.
The award ceremony was held at the Amphitheatre of the Hotel Paradise Village by the Vallarta Yacht Club, headquarters of this great race. Among all the sponsors, we would like to thank Unifin, Tourism Promotion Council of Mexico, Conade and Powerade for their great support.
