For the very first time at the RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show, taking place at Alexandra Palace from 05-06 March, budding young powerboaters can take to the water to claim bragging rights over their friends.

Located in the Panorama Hall, the Honda RYA Youth RIB simulator is a brand new addition to the show and will enable competitors to take on the Championship course in a virtual Highfield 460 RIB – the same boat used by Championship participants.

Those brave enough to take on the challenge will be able to experience the thrills of completing high-speed powerboat handling and manoeuvres – all without getting wet. There will also be a leader board, with prizes awarded to the competitors with the fastest time each day.

Andrew Norton, RYA Powerboat Projects Manager and RYA Honda Youth RIB Event Director, said: “We are really excited to be able to deliver this simulator at the show. Anyone can come along and attempt to set the fastest time around the course.

“We are grateful to Honda and VMach Media for making this possible, and we believe it will give show visitors a real insight into the skills needed to succeed in the RYA Honda Youth RIB Championship.”

In the Panorama Hall, you will also get the chance to hang out on the RYA Magic Marine Trapeze or jump aboard the RS sailing simulator and tackle a course, amongst a range of other great activities on offer.

The Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship is Britain’s leading programme introducing kids to powerboats and training them to be safe, proficient drivers and excellent boat handlers, consisting of two age categories - 8-12 and 13-16.

Last year's national championship was won by Max Mawer of Girton Sailing Club in the 13-16 age group, and, in the 8-12, victory went to Ollie Pirt of Derwent Sailing Club.

RIBs are light, manoeuvrable craft and the boats driven in the Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship can hit speeds of up to 27 knots.

Now in its 15th year, the regional finals of the 2016 Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship will begin at Ballyholme Yacht Club in Northern Ireland on May 7. All 13 RYA regions and Home Countries will host a regional final, before the winners battle it out for the national crown at Southampton Boat Show in September.
