Hello and welcome back to day three of the SIM 35th Open Windsurfing Championship here at Singapore’s National Sailing Centre. Today is the first day of the Championship dedicated to students of the naming sponsor, SIM, the Singapore Institution of Management. Students get to leave their studies and course work and head out on the water to an entirely different type of course – the race course!
The Singapore Institute of Management is a leading provider of higher education and professional training in Singapore, and embraces the SIM Championship as a unique opportunity for students to excel out of the class room and represent their college. SIM recognizes the skills required to succeed in competitive sailing – decision making, strategy and boat on boat tactics – are perfectly aligned to business life.
Windsurfing combines both the pleasure of being on the open sea, the thrill of speed and challenges the individual to discover the equilibrium between physical power, mental strategy and technique. Sailing is a learning experience like no other and really stretches the students, as well as giving them skills they can apply across their academic studies.
Competing in sailing is far more than theory knowledge acquired from books. Sailing provides an additional tool in the students’ kit. Being alone on a windsurfer, trimming the sail and minimizing mistakes to be at the finish line first – makes you independent, quick thinking, a decision maker and able to deliver against set goals. All skills to help you achieve what you want in life.
Meanwhile Chis Newman (GBR), Leonard Tan (SIN) are dominating at Formula and 5.5 Intermediate class, respectively. Podium places across the other classes are still open. Stay tuned as we return to the ultimate final day of the championship tomorrow…!
