Trophée Jules Verne – bon vent aux équipages des Ultimes

Brest métropole et les Fêtes maritimes Internationales de Brest 2016 soutiennent les skippers et les équipages d’Idec Sport et de Spindrift 2. Les deux trimarans de course au large ont été accueillis cette semaine au port de commerce et au port du Château. Ils vont tenter de remporter le trophée Jules Verne.

Ô combien de marins, combien de capitaines se sont amarrés à Brest avant de s’élancer sur la ligne de départ en quête d’un nouveau record… De l’accueil d’Olivier de Kersauson à Loïck Peyron, l’actuel détenteur du trophée Jules Verne, en passant par Franck Cammas, Peter Blake ou Bruno Peyron, Brest Métropole ne faillit pas à sa réputation de port des records. Quant à la présence des deux trimarans géants à quai, elle a offert au public un petit avant-goût des Fêtes Maritimes de Brest 2016. Cela fait partie de la tradition : les pur-sang de la course au large s’y taillent toujours un franc succès aux côtés des bateaux du patrimoine.

Des accueils en triomphe au port de Brest

Déjà en juillet 2008, un des points culminants des fêtes maritimes avait été l’arrivée spectaculaire de Thomas Coville à bord de Sodebo. Le skipper venait de battre le record de traversée de l’Atlantique. Quelques mois plus tôt, Francis Joyon était accueilli en triomphe quai Malbert par une foule enthousiaste, après avoir remporté le record du tour du monde en solitaire. Il le détient toujours aujourd’hui. En ce mois de novembre venté, les deux maxi trimarans s’attaquent au Trophée Jules Verne, le tour du monde en équipage. Avec deux philosophies différentes. D’un côté, une monture quasi minimaliste pour Francis Joyon, menée par un équipage de seulement 6 marins avec notamment Bernard Stamm, une figure de la course au large bien connue des Brestois. De l’autre, le plus grand multicoque au monde, nécessitant 14 équipiers pour le dompter. Un beau challenge en perspective avec une arrivée prévue en 2016. Qu’ils soient victorieux ou non, l’accueil du port de Brest sera tout aussi festif et chaleureux.
