Action kicked off at the Extreme Sailing Series™ Act 7, Istanbul today, live video coverage starts tomorrow and you can watch this on Sail-World.com

Istanbul promises to put the fleet of Extreme 40s to the test and thrill spectators. The highlight of the week will come in the form of a long distance race down the iconic Bosphorus under the bridges that connect Asia and Europe.

Commentary and expert insight into the racing will be from Land Rover Global Brand Ambassador, Hannah White, and Extreme 40 veteran and former Series winner, Pete Cumming. The live coverage includes a multi-camera feed and onboard camera, as well as analytics from ESS technical partner SAP.

Volvo Ocean Race – The Future – Drones, OBR’s and more boats?

Today we published part III in the Volvo Ocean Race series interview with Knut Frostad. Again more interesting news.

We are struck by the contrast in management styles between the Volvo Ocean Race and the America's Cup, Frostad and his team have worked hard to take the teams, the sponsors and fans with them. In contrast many observers believe that the America's Cup event organisers do just the opposite.

Yesterday Sail-World's Guy Nowell was on the Team SCA Volvo 65 in Genoa and after a quick trip back to Hong Kong for the start of the RHKYC China Cup series he is heading for Bermuda, so we are looking forward to hearing more on the contrasting styles.

Nacra 17 Europeans - Races was cancelled on the third day of the Nacra 17 European Championship in Barcelona but racing resumed today.

British Ben Saxton and Nicola Groves were at the top of the Europeans. In second place and tied up on points with the leaders, there are Australians Darren Bundock and Nina Curtis. French Franck Cammas and Sophie de Turckheim complete the provisional podium after six races. The European competition will run until Saturday, October 3rd.

Les Voiles de Saint Tropez – following Regates Royale, this event in Saint Tropez also features both large and beautiful classic yachts as well as modern yachts, including a fleet of 15 Wallys and five IRC classes.

The appeal of offshore
Is there still appeal? Have we made it too onerous? Why would someone take it up now? I had been pondering. Yes. Marquee events have no issue attracting entrants. Middle Sea, Transpac, Cape to Rio, Fastnet, and Hobart all spring to mind instantly, but what of the ‘lesser' races? Lots of boats in pens (slips) a lot of the time
