2015 Audi Melges 20 World Championship at San Francisco YC

2015 Audi Melges 20 World Championship - In two week’s time, some of the most talented sailors in the world paired perfectly with extraordinary amatuer Audi Melges 20 owners and drivers will converge on San Francisco Bay to participate in the sportboat Class' third World Championship, hosted by The San Francisco Yacht Club (SFYC).

'The red carpet is ready to roll, and preparations for what will be one amazing World Championship, on- and off-the-water is in full swing,' said Angie Lackey, Event Chair for SFYC. 'We've been planning since last season to welcome teams from all over the world. This past weekend's Pacific Coast Championship (PCC) is proof that the racing will be second-to-none, and with a constant string of wonderful sponsors coming onboard daily, the on-shore activities are going to be nothing short of sensational.'

Bring it on

A quick glance down the entry list reveals that some of the best teams in the class are traveling from all over the world ready to enjoy everything San Francisco has to offer. From the likes of Italy's Achille Onorato on Mascalzone Latino Jr. (2014 World Champion runner-up), and recently crowned European/Audi-Tron Sailing Series Champion Dario Levi on Fremito D'Arja; to 2015 North American Ranking leader Richard Davies' Section 16, National Champion Jason Michas on Midnight Blue and defending World Champion John Kilroy Jr. on Samba Pa Ti - this show is going to rock the world!

Wild Thing

Famed movie character Forrest Gump once said 'Life is like a box of chocolates, ya neva know whatcha gonna get.' This statement very much applies to the Worlds, and the Pacific Coast Championship proved it true. After two days of racing (six races and a discard), the aspiring Liam Kilroy on Wildman claimed his very first regatta win ever. The young Kilroy conquered the fleet of twenty teams preparing for Worlds. His team consisted of multiple World and National Champs Steve Hunt and Erik Shampain, and none other than the fantastic U.S. Sailing Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year Stephanie Roble from Lake Beulah/East Troy, Wisconsin.

'It's been an amazing two years of sailing with Team Wildman and we've hit a mega-milestone in Liam's life by winning his first regatta,' said an ecstatic Roble via Facebook. 'I feel honored to be part of such a special team with awesome teammates.'

We've only just begun

The Worlds will commence soon, and what teams are focusing on right now is preparation. Measurement will start five days in advance of the event, ultimately bringing every boat into top-notch check before racing. Registration will commence on the Monday prior checking in at least thirty-nine Audi Melges 20 teams. Wednesday, September 30 will mark the first of four days of intense Championship racing.
