Longtze and European D-One regattas - at Fraglia Vela Riva

by Elena Giolai on 10 Sep 2015
The Longtze and European D-One Regattas 2015 Elena Giolai/Fraglia Vela Riva
The first round of September regattas have concluded at Fraglia Vela Riva. The exclusive four man crew Longtze, which races in Montecarlo and France and is fond of the waters of Lake Garda, completed eight races with a hard fought battle in the eighth and final race. Victory went to the Swiss crew helmed by Wieland.

At the same time the European D-One Championships were held, the single invented by Finn Olympic silver medallist Luca Devoti. This craft is especially popular among ex Finns and Laserists who enjoy the challenge of racing with the high performing craft. The title was won easily by Nick Craig of Great Britain after six races. Teply came second 6 points behind. Mario Rabbò of Liguria took bronze after two second partials. Six nations took part altogether.

From Thursday 12th - Saturday 14th September the J70 will be competing. The monotype is becoming ever more popular and is a craft that Fraglia Vela Riva has been supportive of since its début three years ago by establishing the J70 Eurocup.

Around thirty crews from six different nations are expected at Fraglia Vela Riva for the only international regatta of this class to be held in Italy which will also conclude the J70 Alcatel Onetouch Italian Trophy tour which has Carlo Alberini defending his title.

Hot on his heels is Franco Solerio of San Remo on L'Elagain who leads the field with a seven point lead over Domenici-Giallongo on board Notaro Team. Watch out for the crews from Germany, Austria, Monaco and Russia who will be out to make the most of the gusts from Lake Garda, always a sure thing in international sailing.

Once the J70 Eurocup is out of the way, it's the turn of the Musto Skiff which will hold its World Championships from the 14th-19th September. This is something new for Fraglia Vela Riva who will go all out to give the best of itself to welcome its new guests who have chosen Riva del Garda for its most important date of the year.
