2015 Perini Navi Cup gets underway at YCCS

by Yacht Club Costa Smeralda on 28 Aug 2015
Perini Navi Cup 2013 Perini Navi
2015 Perini Navi Cup – Yacht owners from across the globe, imposing vessels, professional yachtsmen and lovers of sailing will gather in Porto Cervo throughout the month of September for series of events to mark the conclusion of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda's 2015 Mediterranean racing season.

Events get underway with the Perini Navi Cup which, every two years, brings the best in Italian naval architecture to the waters of Sardinia's La Maddalena Archipelago. The sixth edition of the event, taking place from second to 5th September, will host a fleet of sailing giants reaching up to 88 metres in length as well as a number of motor yachts. The impressive yachts will race on coastal courses and enjoy a range of exclusive social events organized by the YCCS in collaboration with Perini Navi and the event sponsors.

No sooner do the curtains close on the Perini Navi Cup, than the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup takes centre stage from sixth to 12th September. Organized in collaboration with title sponsor Rolex and with the International Maxi Association, the regatta regularly attracts a fleet of more than 40 sailing yachts representing the cream of international yachting. This year the event, which has been taking place in Porto Cervo each September for over 30 years, will host the World Championships of the newly formed and highly competitive Maxi 72 class.

The season in Costa Smeralda concludes with a new addition to the sporting calendar: the final of the SAILING Champions League SCL). Taking place from 18th to 20th September, the first international sailing league competition to be held in Italian waters will host the finest teams from a number of national sailing leagues across Europe and beyond. Thirty-two top-level crews are expected to compete on board one-design J70 boats.

YCCS regattas will continue in November in the Club's Caribbean base in Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands with the RC44 Virgin Gorda Cup which concludes the 2015 sporting calendar. Prepararions are already underway, however, for a busy 2016 and a number of special celebratory events in 2017 to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Club's foundation.
