PwC pitches in for Endeavour Project ACEA http://www.americascup.com
America's Cup – An abundance of enthusiasm and teamwork made the inaugural Community Day for the Endeavour Program a tremendous success.

A team of 20 employees and interns from PwC joined the America’s Cup and the Bermuda Sea Cadet Association to complete the initial steps toward the transformation of the T.S. Admiral Somers Building in St. George’s for the Endeavour Program.

Susan Outerbridge, T.S. Admiral Somers Building Unit Manager, Bermuda Sea Cadet Association, said: “We appreciate the opportunity to partner with the America’s Cup Event Authority (ACEA) and America’s Cup Bermuda (ACBDA) and look forward to hosting the Eastern Endeavour Fort at our T.S. Admiral Somers location.

“Our Sea Cadet Program will benefit greatly from this partnership as our cadets gain access to a sailing program. It’s exciting to watch everything unfold as the community works together to accomplish goals, including facility upgrades that have been on our wish list for some time. An exciting preview of what is to come!”

Tom Herbert-Evans, Community Sailing Manager, ACEA, said: “It was amazing to see the dedication and impressive talents of the PwC team as they worked hard to disassemble wooden partitions, pack up the kitchen, office and workshop contents as well as clean up the Davenport Beach in preparation of the project work that will take place during the next several weeks.

“Our goal is to have the Eastern Fort ready to launch the Endeavour Program in late September when students return to school. This creates a very short timeline but our team is up to the challenge to accomplish critical priorities by the deadline.”

Jennifer Pitcher, Community Outreach Manager, ACEA, added: “We are incredibly grateful to the PwC team that worked tirelessly despite the weather conditions and their efforts made a huge impact on our necessary site preparation.”

Arthur Wightman, PwC Bermuda leader and Chairman of the ACBDA working group responsible for the sustainability and legacy of the America's Cup said: “We are privileged to have the opportunity to contribute to the Endeavour program. We are proud to be an official supplier to the America's Cup and through that we are deeply committed to ensuring that the event is sustainable and leaves a lasting legacy for Bermuda.

'The Endeavour program will provide wonderful community outreach and will allow those who may not have had the opportunity to experience sailing to do so. Our PwC volunteers are firmly behind this programme and will continue to provide the support necessary to ensure its success.”

The America’s Cup Endeavour Program will enable M1 students across Bermuda to learn more about sailing through a cross-curricular STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) Education Program. Students will participate in a five-day program featuring experiential learning and increase their understanding of water safety and sailing knowledge. They will have the opportunity to learn how to sail with four types of boats: Hobie Wave, RS Feva, O’Pen Bic, and Optimists and develop their skills with certified sailing instructors.
