Evergreen sailing legend Lou Abrahams has signed up for his second Sydney 38 One Design.
Twice National Sydney 38 Champion, Lou explains ‘Over the last three years I have enjoyed the best and most cost effective sailing in my 40 years’ he then went on to say ‘with 50 Sydney 38’s around the country and such a good class I can only see this growing’.
In a magnanimous gesture, Lou has sold his current 38 ‘Challenge Again’ to the Melbourne University Sailing Team and rolled into a new boat with the twin goals of building the Victorian fleet and supporting the Melbourne Uni bid to compete in this years Sydney – Hobart race.
A veteran of 42 Hobart races, Lou is an icon in Australian yachting and he takes his role as a ‘Godfather’ seriously; always ready to support sailing at any level, wether it be grass roots youth development or Offshore One Design in the Sydney 38's.
The new boat to be called ‘Challenge’ brings the fleet number in Melbourne to eight and with 2005 Sydney 38OD Nationals (with 20 – 25 boats) scheduled to take place during the Skandia Geelong Race Week, we expect to see more Sydney 38’s coming soon to Port Philip.
