Louis Vuitton Americas Cup World series coming up – On Thursday July 23rd the heat is on in Portsmouth. Ben Ainslie has been clear in stating his goal is to bring the Cup back to Britain.

“The America’s Cup started here in 1851,” Ainslie said. “We’ve had a few shots over the past 164 years but we’ve never come that close to winning. It’s important to us to get that job done now.”

But to do that, he’ll have to beat the defending champions, Jimmy Spithill and ORACLE TEAM USA - a team he helped to victory in 2013. “Ben is a really good guy. You meet him on the shore and he’s very courteous, well mannered,” Spithill says. “On the water though, you flick a switch. He becomes very, very aggressive and he gets the results.”

TP52 World Championship in Portals, Mallorca – Two more days to go and the World Championship will be crowned. In total five race days, max 10 races, including one Coastal Race.

2015 Transatlantic Race – Photographer Daniel Forster was onboard on Comanche before the transatlantic start - He was invited by Comanche to do some onboard photography before the Transatlantic Start in Newport. It was quite an experience to walk the 30.5 meters (100 feet) to document sail changes.

The most exciting part was to climb (get hoisted) to the top of the 46.00m (150ft) mast and see the 22 crew members running around like ants down on the deck…

We now know that the 24-hour record got broken! Comanche covered 618 miles, and it is now the fastest monohull boat in the world – Last record was set in 2008 by Erichson 3, skippered by Torben Grael, 596 miles in 24 hours.

See Daniel Forsters Pictures HERE.

2015 Extreme Sailing Series heads to Hamburg for spectacular debut – If you are close, watch the action live – or follow it on Sail-World.com.

For the first time in its nine-year history, the world’s only annual global, sailing grand-prix is set to race in the heart of Hamburg, Germany. Nine elite-level racing teams will take to the busy waters of the River Elbe to put on their unique brand of city centre Stadium Racing in Extreme 40 catamarans.

In an unprecedented move in Hamburg, the four-day regatta - from July 23 to 26 - will see cruise liners and other commercial craft make room for the racing on one of the tightest courses ever staged by the Extreme Sailing Series™. Add strong tidal currents and the vagaries of the weather and you have all the ingredients for what promises to be a superb weekend of racing in front of thousands of fans.

Good Sailing

The appeal of offshore
Is there still appeal? Have we made it too onerous? Why would someone take it up now? I had been pondering. Yes. Marquee events have no issue attracting entrants. Middle Sea, Transpac, Cape to Rio, Fastnet, and Hobart all spring to mind instantly, but what of the ‘lesser' races? Lots of boats in pens (slips) a lot of the time
