2015 Kieler Woche, Part 2 – Day 2 overall

by Kieler Woche on 27 Jun 2015 The Kieler Woche 2015 until today is becoming an event for those with a favour for late evening performance. The head of organisation Dirk Ramhorst did call the fleets onto the race courses not before 2pm. There had been a silver shine on the fjord before.

'The wind has been switched off to prevent the icing sugar to blow off the breakfast waffles', meteorologist Meeno Schrader, the weather expert of the Kieler Woche, was joking in the morning, just to show a weather system with sailable winds in the afternoon. Altogether, 101 races were sailed in 16 classes. On Saturday, the time to sleep in will be over, the first starts were re-scheduled earlier for 10am.

The US-Americans Wiley Rogers/Jack Parkin did take the lead in the 420. The skiffs also only had a short trip onto the water. Ben Schooling (Great Britain) in the Musto Performance did keep the Kieler Woche winner Ivaer Ahlmann (Buedelsdorf) on distance by one point. In the RS800, it was an 'astonishing' day: The British Phil Walker/John Mather had to handle a second place - after having already won four races. Not perfect, but still dominating were the catamaran sailors from Ostholstein. Helge and Christian Sach (Zarnekau) did strengthen their top position in the Formula 18 and thus did warm up for a speed race in front of Strande, which they want to do on Saturday evening. Their counterpart in the Hobie 16 are Lauritz Bockelmann/Karoline Berndt from Kellenhusen.

The 29ers, who sailed the Europeans in Kiel last year, are having no problems with their registration numbers and did again show up with a fleet of 86 crews. The best German crew in the light winds are the sisters Safia and Anisah Schuchmann (Kiel) on rank three, while Carla and Marta Munte are leading.

The Contender fleet is facing a grim revenge of the European Championship 2014. While Soeren Dulong Andreasen from Denmark did take away the title from the boat builder Max Billerbeck (Kollmar) in the previous year, the sailor from Schleswig-Holstein is now leading in front of the Danish. But the Danish amazons are in command of the Europe fleet: Anna Munch is in front of her compatriot Anna Livbjerg and the whole fleet of 62 sailors. Completing the great performance of the Danish sailors, Bo Petersen is leading in the OK dinghy.

In the two Laser classes, Konstanz is the place to be from. Julia Buesselberg (Berlin) is leading in the fleet of the young 4.7 sailors after a series with no mistakes. Viktorija Andrulyite from Lithuania could even manage an early start with one discarded result and still remain in top position... On the other hand, Wolfgang Hunger (Strande) has to be worried about his 22. Kieler Woche success. The experts in light winds Jan Saugmann and crew Jakob Karbo from Denmark did take the chance to sail past Hunger and his crew Julien Kleiner.
