Abu Dhabi Ocean racing has all but won the Offshore and In Port Trophies in the 2014-2015 Volvo Ocean Race.

This race was used to decide fourth place in the Offshore Trophy between Team Alvimedica and Mapfre. Both were tied on points offshore, noting that Mapfre was penalised a total of three points across incidents on two legs. Team Alvimedica is currently two points ahead of Mapfre on the Inshore Trophy and if she retains this margin will finish fourth offshore.

If Mapfre beat Team Alvimedica by two places in the In Port race in Gothenburg, then she drew even with her rival. Then the decision is made on countback of places in the In Shore race to break the ties. Organsiers have to go deep into the score to break the boats, and before the Gothenburg In Port race they could only be broken at the number of 5th places with that going to Team Alvimedica. However if they finish higher then fifth, then there are a number of permutations.

Overall for the Inshore Trophy, if Team Brunel win and Abu Dhabi finish last, then the two boats will be tied on 32 pts each. The tie breaker will work in Team Brunel's favour as she would then have two wins to Abu Dhabi's single win. Of course if Abu Dhabi picked up some penalty points for some reason then there are a number of permutations which follow as a consequence.
