Lending Club 2 scorches under the Golden Gate Bridge David Schmidt
Sail-World’s North American Editor David Schmidt spent a day aboard the 105 foot trimaran Lending Club 2 in San Francisco last week. He still has a big grin on his face.

A must read story

Knut Frostad is passionate about the Volvo Ocean Race, some good decisions leading up to 2014-2015 have it in a strong place. He talked to Sail-World at length in Lisbon and we heard more from him in Gothenburg earlier this week. Today we have part one of that interview series.

We will hear more from Gothenburg over the weekend with Ian Thommo Thomson reporting for Sail-World.

Richard Gladwell reports that long time sponsor of French trans-oceanic sailing, Groupama, will back the Team France challenge for the 2017 America's Cup.
The team led by Franck Cammas, Michel Desjoyeaux and Olivier de Kersauson, will be renamed as Groupama Team France.

At the same time Grant Simmer in Bermuda, doing it tough, says that Oracle Team USA will have another AC45 S on the water in a few months. Its clear that the American team with Aussies Grunter, Jimmy Spithill and Tom Slingsby up front are not leaving their 2017 Cup defence to chance.

Locally John Curnow looks ahead to the Etchells Nationals in Melbourne.

Enjoy our news and your weekend

The appeal of offshore
Is there still appeal? Have we made it too onerous? Why would someone take it up now? I had been pondering. Yes. Marquee events have no issue attracting entrants. Middle Sea, Transpac, Cape to Rio, Fastnet, and Hobart all spring to mind instantly, but what of the ‘lesser' races? Lots of boats in pens (slips) a lot of the time
