Top international photographer, Rick Tomlinson, was in the air as the Volvo Ocean Race passed through the various tidal gates off the Brittany coast.

The area is notorious for its range of tidal fall and flow. Boats either hug the coast to minimise the tidal impact, or head into a favourable tide to add up to six knots or more to their boat speed over the ground.
